KANCHANABURI

KANCHANABURI is the third vastest province of Thailand Kanchanaburi covers a surperficie of 19 485 square kilometres (often mountainous) and skirts Myanmar (Burma) to the west of Bangkok.
The town of Kanchanaburi owes all glory with the legendary bridge of the Kwai river. The Japanese would have ordered to the allied prisoners and to the other Asian workers to build this "bridge of dead" during the Second World war to connect Thailand to Burma and to prepare thus the invasion of the British Indies. This history was made famous for the book of Pierre Boulle the bridge of the Kwai river. Its reading is thus essential to prepare the visit, it will enable you to confront your impressions of the reading with reality. The neighbourhoods of the bridge became a tourist paradise overflowing of memories pointing out the unforgettable bridge. It is even possible to take the train which crosses the current bridge. You can continue your voyage while exploring the landscape, formerly a difficult jungle of access. The amateurs of the history will seek to discover one of the museums which ensure the visitor to tell "the right story of the death railway". However, some of them chose to enrich them account of military stories which have nothing to do with the place - why not to supplement the history by some portraits of Hitler or Stalin to attract more tourists? The historical pilgrimage is prolonged by a walk in the town of Kanchanaburi where several cemeteries of war point out the 7 000 victims of the bridge.
