Chiang Rai was founded in 1262 by king Meng Rai and was the first capital of Lanna Thai (Kingdom of a Million Rice plantations). The province, which includes/understands the point more in North of Thailand with Mae Sai, is well-known for its mountainous panorama and its tribes, and is in the area known as the Gold Triangle, where the borders of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar (ex-Burma) converge. |
