Chiang Mai is located at more than 700 km at the north of Bangkok.
Chiang Mai, the Pink of North, sometimes also called "Chiengmai", is the second larger town of the Thailand, culturally most significant in the north of Thailand and the capital of the province of Chiang Mai.
It is located at 800 kilometers in the north of Bangkok, among the highest mountains of the country.
The city is located on banks of the river Ping, an important tributary of the river of Chao Phraya.
It has many attractions for the thousands of foreign visitors who come Chiang Mai every year.
The historical force of Chiang Mai derives from its important strategic situation close to a southernmost branch of the old road of silk, and a long time before the modern surge of the foreign visitors the city was used as important center for its craft industry, the sunshades, the jewels (in particular money) and these woodcarvings .

The town of Chiang Mai itself located at the edge of the Ping river, is a nest of treasures of old temples in more or worse state, some magnificiently preserved, others under conditions of worthy antiquities.
A visit with National park DOI Suthep, perhaps most beautiful of Thailand, located in the mountains above the city and which shelters, in the heights, celebrates it temple Wat Phra That DOI Suthep, is one must for any visitor of the north of the country.

Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep :
According to the legend, the site of temple was chosen by an elephant carrying a holy relic. Initially the relic was to be enchased in Wat Suan Dok in 1371, but it broke into two. The second piece was placed on the back of an elephant which put itself has to assemble the DOI Suthep, stopping twice. After three days the elephant reached finally a levelled ground, made three times the turn, knelt and died of them. A hole was hollow on the site for the relic, which was then covered with a chedi of more than seven meters in height. Until A what the road was built in 1935 ,the pilgrims were to climb has foot the mountain then the most 200 steps of the long staircase bordered of nagas to reach the temple. This staircase was initially built in the medium of the 16 century.
The interior sanctuary, encircled walls, is surrounded by a lower terrace. This level there is an excellent sight on the city and the valley. The faithful ones like to make sound the bells and the gongs around the base of the sanctuary. A statue of the elephant commemorates the foundation of the temple.The interior sanctuary is one of the traditional sights of Chiang Mai. A plated gold chedi is in the medium of a square marble court. The chedi reached its current size of more than 16 meters in 1525. A balustrade around the square base of the chedi surrounds a way for the rounds of devotion around the chedi (the women cannot enter this part). Parasols, symbols of the royalty, are placed at the four corners of the chedi. The court took its current form in 1805.

It east delimits by a cloister which contains images and murals depicting the life of Buddha. In the medium on the sides east and west of the cloister are two viharn decorated. The interior walls from both are covered with frescos. Those of the viharn east show the legend elephant and relic, whereas those of the western hall, Vessantara Jataka. The faithful ones to the western viharn will receive the blessings and water lustrale monks sitting under a platform. Southern and northern sides of the cloister, smaller vaults are the subject of much veneration. The Thais prosternent themselves, then shake a goblet containing 28 sticks numbered to see which fall the first on the ground. A sheet predicting the future for each number is in a nearby rack.


Zoo of Chiang Mai - 3 km of the town
The Zoo of Chiang Mai, opens to us its doors with the foot of mountain DOI Suthep, it contains many animal but such botanical species.
It has at the same time local and exotic animals, such as the penguins, seals and pandas.Ainsi that the ornithological center of Nakhon Phing, a large birdcage in dome which allows the observation . near to the birds.


Temple Chedi Chet Yot else the Temple Photaram Wihan at 5 km. of the center town
Exceptional for its form and its size, the stupa of seven florets of this temple is a counterpart of the famous pagoda which is in India, Buddhakhaya. Around the stupa, is divine sculptures This stupa was built during the reign of King Tilokkarat of the Dynasty Mengrai, the apogee of Buddhism with Lanna, where the first Revision of Tripitaka took place in 1477.


Temple Suan Dok - 1 km. of the door Suan Dok This temple was built at the 14th century in the gardens of the mornarche Lanna inhabitant of Thailand. It became in place of predilection for the photographers, in particular with laying down sun. Several of the white chedis contain ashes of the former royal thai family. The image of the bronze Buddha in the second vault is one of the largest metal images of Thailand, it goes back to nearly 500 years.

Temple Phra Sing - 1 km of the door Tha Phae This temple, located on Singhakhlai Road, is a refined example of the religious architecture of Thai Lanna. The reproduction of Phra Buddha Sihing sheltered today in Wat Phra Sing de Chiang Mai was before preserved ici.L' impressive Wihan also lodges Phra Phutthasihing, the image of the Buddha of Chiang Mai.

Temple Chedi Luang - 600 m. of the door Tha Phae In this temple the largest pagoda of Chiang Mai is built during the reign of King Sean Mueang My approximately 500 years ago, pagoda the 98 meters height and 54 meters broad, was used to accomodate revere emerald Bouddha during 20 years.
In 1545, the pagoda collapsed because of a seism during the reign of the Chiraprapha Queen, but the remaining lower half remains enough important to be seen periphery of the city. The National museum of Chang Mai The national museum of Chiang Mai is the principal regional museum of north, thought to be the center of education and safeguarding of the art and the culture of Chiang Mai and the north of Thailand, the kingdom of Lanna. The museum is a large house with the Thai style with a traditional roof of the style of north.

Door Tha Phae and the Fort Sri Phum > «Mai Wiang» or City centers is surrounded by the ramparts of the city made up of six large doors: Tha Phae. Chang Phuek; Suan Dok. Suan Prung. Chiang Mai and Chang Moi. In the past. Chang Phuek was a worked out door, only reserved to the royal family.
Nowadays, the Door Tha Phrae lost its old reputation while becoming a very animated tourist place. It is the only one which was restored in its original state, based on testimonys photographic, whereas, the door Chang Me does not exist any more. The "Chaeng" or the fortresses is built with the four corners of the wall: Chaeng Kha Tarn, Chaeng Ku Hueang, Chaeng Hooted Flax and Chaeng Sri Phum. The last is most important dating from the foundation of the city, it y has 700 years.


Park National Doi Inthanon - 90 km of the town The majority of the tourists come there to admire the landscape, to slacken there with friends, or to make a pilgrimage with mount DOI Inthanon, the most top of the pays(2565 meters). Others still, like these ornithologists amateurs, come to observe astonishing park.

The observation of birds is also an activity practised in the park.
   

Village Bo Sang > A small turn at the universally known village of Bo Sang, with approx. ten kilometers of Chiang Mai You will be able to admire there the artisanal manufacture of the sunshades and paper parasol. The Village Tribal de Doi Pui - 8 km of the Temple Phra Tat Doi SuthepDoi Pui is a mountain contiguous to DOI Suthep. If you intend to visit DOI Suthep, made a halt by its tribal village.
Mongs are established here for a long time and are closer to the urban centre in comparison of others tribus.
Whereas apart from the village, is many fruit trade.

   

Village San Kamphaeng The Village of the weaving of cotton and silk. This village, not less known, is located at 13 km of the city. It is the principal center of all the production of silk and cotton of Chiang Mai. The products of a rich person variety of formse and dimensions are woven by the local people on the traditional ones established out of wood. One finds there plaids, brocarts at rayures and printed fabric.

 

Farms of the orchises and the butterflies The principal greenhouses of the valley of Mae Its include/understand the complexes of Mountain Orchid, Mae Rim Orchid and Sai Nam Phung Orchid. Each complex makes it possible to the visitor to admire exotic flowers which flower all the year. Some close have also various kinds of cocoons at the interior which one can see exotic species in their natural environment.
